Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is a classic gentle type of massage using slow rhythmic strokes. It soothes muscles and increases relaxation. It is good for easing muscular strain by flushing out toxins, improving blood flow and reducing stress.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage in that it uses long, slow and firm strokes to treat painful muscles.  However, as it states in the name it is aimed at deeper tissues.  This requires more pressure to be applied to treat the deeper lying tissues.  Deep tissue massage is often used over large areas of the body and is effective at treating chronic aches and pain.  It releases chronic tensions held in the muscles due to tightness, chronic pain and anxiety.

Sports Massage

Sports massage can be very similar to deep tissue massage with a number of techniques used in both.  Some of the main differences are that sports massage will concentrate on a specific area of concern, whereas, deep tissue will treat a larger general area. Sports massage is mainly used to treat sports injuries or injuries that are located in a specific area of the body. The aim of sports massage is to aid in injury recovery and reduce the chance of re-injury. A sports therapist will use a combination of specialist techniques and rehab exercises in their treatment plan.

Sports massage will involve a more detailed consultation and assessment. This will include looking into previous injuries, activity levels, work and background medical conditions.
